Getting A New Natural Gas Meter
If natural gas is available in your area, but not connected yet to your home or business, you will need both a Master Gas Fitter, and the gas provider to establish new gas service.
First, contact the utility company or natural gas provider who services the address, and request a new meter for that location. After the gas provider runs their gas line to the building and installs their meter, you will need a certified Master Gas Fitter to buy a permit and install gas lines to the appliances. A pressure test will be performed, along with an inspection, before the gas can be turned on.
Got gas? No, not what you’re thinking. Natural gas! Both are natural, granted! This is a new natural gas meter, in the process of hookup. In order to connect to natural gas, a homeowner or business owner is required to hire a Master Gas fitter to complete the installation. The utility or gas company will connect their line from the gas source, underground from the street to the new meter. The owner is then required to hire a State Licensed Master Gas fitter to secure the meter and tie it in, as well as run the new lines throughout the home to the gas appliances and connect them. Only a Board Licensed Master or Journeyman gas fitter is allowed by law to work on, install, repair, or connect to gas lines, new or existing. This trade license can only be acquired through years of documented apprenticeship and journeyman-ship, State Plumbing and Gas fitters Board testing, identity verification and certification of training, testing and liability insurance.
